Double trouble.

I have extremely pale skin, as you can see. I now love my porcelain tone, it complements my colouring well and it is a dream for playing around with make up. What I don't really like about being this fair is having to deal with the inevitable advertisements every single summer for products which will leave you with a "healthy glow". When I was growing up, I used to get all pissed off in the summertime that I couldn't achieve a natural tan - when I spend a lot of time in the sun most of the time the result is nothing more than dry skin, on the odd occasion I will get sunburn. If I had continued on trying to get a tan like I did when I was younger, I could have seriously damaged my skin not to mention exposed myself to serious medical repercussions.

Every spring/summer we are inundated with articles on how to be beach ready, what products are necessary for the warmer months and new releases in the form of tanning lotions, mouses and treatments. Tanned, bronzed skin is beautiful, there is no doubt about that. But so is fair skin, so is olive skin, so is deep skin. What my qualm is, is that by projecting an image of how we should look in the summer there will be a lot of people who use stupid products like tanning oil, sunbeds or even tanning injections. I think it's important to take care of your skin rather than strive for the perfect tan. SPF should be your best friend when the sun is peaking out, you shouldn't over expose your skin to UV rays for any reason. Personally, I think appreciating your natural colouring, where ever it may fall on the spectrum, will boost your self confidence and ultimately make you look your best.

There's my two-cents (Or pence rather, just doesn't have the same ring to it. Does it?)

  2. Completely agree. I hate sunbeds, tanning injections and anything fatal to the health...it's just such a selfish way to get a tan yet put you at risk of cancer and the like. It's a shame the media won't respect young girls who are pale and are happy to stay pale, as opposed to mould them into what they like! x

  3. I'm pale and happy that way too! I actively avoid getting tanned XD I don't really have a problem with adverts in Summer encouraging people to achieve a 'Summer glow' as many people do like tans and each to their own. However, I don't like the trivialisation of sunbeds and other damaging treatments in order to achieve a tan.
It does kinda annoy me when people moan about the fact they're "soooo pale" and I'm sitting there like "Yeh, look at me. You're pretty tanned. And what's wrong with being pale?"

  4. I couldn't agree more with what you're saying about the importance of healthy skin. Using SPF should be what gets advertised not looking bronzed by getting a tan. Having a tan looks great but so also does pale skin and I think it's excellent that you're sending that message out there.

Sun beds should be banned, and as for tanning injections, don't get me started.

    Great post :)

  5. I totally agree! I'm super fair as well, and while I still use a touch of bronzer in the summer, I'm still all about embracing my paleness and taking care of my skin with sunscreen. I know I'll be glad I did in years to come :)
