THE 411 | Liquid Eyeliners.

No idea why I liked the bricks in background, but I did.

Ever since I started wearing make up, around seven years ago, I've been wearing liquid eyeliner in a cat eye shape. Consequently, I'm really good at it and I know the 411 on what makes a good liquid eyeliner. I've experimented quite a lot, more than is pictured, but these are just the ones in my collection right now, so I thought I'd let you know which are good and which to avoid like the plague - bit dramatic.

Before I really get into the post, I just wanna remind you all I have a giveaway running here for some House of Holland false nails :) Now back to business...

I want three things from a liquid eyeliner. 1. Deep opaque black ink. 2. Staying power (I have extremely sensitive, watery eyes so this is somewhat a tall order.) and finally, 3. Precision for the wing. Not too much to ask? Some of these products thought so.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Thick and Thin (£5.49) I can usually find something good about a product, that's not the case here. It's difficult to apply, not black enough, wipes of at the first sign of moisture and to add insult to injury, I hate the packaging, it looks so cheap.

Stila Stay All Day* (£13.00) The most expensive of this bunch and the latest one to be tested, but it is by no means overpriced. The nib is super thin which means you can get the thinnest line but also build it up, good stuff right there. It's got really good staying power, it really does stay all day and the finish is really black. Very impressed.

Eyeko Skinny (£12.00) This, is overpriced. I didn't pay for it admittedly, it was a magazine freebie. I'd probably be quite pissed off if I had though. The ink is black and this probably has the most precise nib which makes it all the more disappointing when less than two hours into wearing it the wing has miraculously disappeared. It's not a good look and it makes me not want to bother with this product.

L'Oreal Super Liner (£6.49) The best of the bunch, it gives you ultimate control because of the shape of the wand which is the perfect mix of a thick and thin felt tip nib, the ink is deep and glossy and it will not move until you come at it with some decent eye make up remover. It's the one.

Collection Fast Stroke (£2.50) The veteran of the bunch, and also the most purse friendly. I can't say a bad word about this. I used it for around £4 years everyday, I couldn't even tell you how many bottles I have bought over the years. It's pigmented, long lasting and it is really easy to get a quick, seamless flick with it. For the price, it's unrivalled.

L'Oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim £6.99 More expensive than the other L'Oreal one but not even half as good, why's that L'Oreal? It doesn't hang around, that's it's fault. The rest of it is pretty decent, but I don't really know a circumstance where you wouldn't need your eyeliner to stay put. It disappointed me, for sure.

So that's my opinion on some liquid eyeliners, I should mention, all of these are felt tip liners, I never got on with the brush nibs aha! Hope this helped whether you're looking to get into liner, or just for another to add to the collection!

  1. Excellent post!! I love a good liquid eyeliner and you have certainly swayed me towards the Loreal one. You can clearly see the difference in each one from the picture aswel which is great, it gives a true indication of the colour. I normally use the NYC liquid eyeliner which i havent had any problems with xx

    1. I've always wondered what the different packaging was about, is the gold more glossy or something? x

  5. What an amazing roundup! I'm a huge sucker for black liquid liner, so this post is so up my alley! I really want to try the Stila option and at the moment my all-time fave is Revlon Liquid Eye Pen in Blackest Black :)

  7. I recently bought the Collection one and although I find it's got a nice quality, it's also not as waterproof as I'd like it to be. On windy days, when our eyes tend to water more, I notice it budges a bit near the inner corner of the eye. :( Was going to try the L'Oreal super slim next but now I've read your review, I'm not so sure anymore. Is Stila the best out of the bunch? It pains me to spend more than £10 on a liner. X
