CHAT | My University Experience & Freshers tips.

I look different even from last summer, nevermind Freshers aha!

I'll start off by saying that the 4 years I was at University were hands down the best years of my life so far. I had an extremely positive experience moving from Cardiff to my university town of Aberystwyth, I completely immersed myself in the 'bubble' of University, worked hard but went out all the time too - hence all the photos from the inside of night clubs. I think that University is a good place to develop your personality, you meet people who you wouldn't have spoken to before or just wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet. I can say that I am a distinctly different person that I was in September 2010 when I left.

There are some things I wish I would have done differently, of course. I wish I had got a little more involved with the University itself so that I had a more well rounded CV. I didn't join societies, nor did I take part in much of the Uni extra-curriculars. Apart from writing a few articles for the newspaper, I literally did my assignments and that was it. I only really started using the facilities in my final year, I never met with my personal tutor, I never took advantage of the free lectures held by the International Politics school that I was a part of. I sort of did what I needed to do to get what I wanted and in hindsight, I think if I had taken advantage of Uni a little more, I might have left with a First rather than a 2:1 (Though I am still extremely proud because I know how hard I worked.)

The social side of University was incredibly good for me, I know a lot of people who didn't have the same experience as I did though. If you don't jump head first into the social side of Uni when you can, you might feel a little overwhelmed. I'm quite a friendly and confident person so I spoke to pretty much anyone and I think that worked out in my favour because I had all sorts of mates in my friendship group alone.

If you want a good experience it's all about striking the right balance. Previously I wrote a few posts with some tips I learned over the years which you might find helpful, the first is called Student loans & tips on budgeting and the second is How to get the most out of University. Also, at the end of last summer I did a little series about make up looks for back to school and university which you can check out here and here if you'd like :) It's nuts to see how different I look now, and even how different my blog style is aha. Oh well!

I hope this helped and was enjoyable at least for any of you about to start your first year of University, good luck and enjoy every minute of it!

  4. Going to uni was one of the best decisions I made, I've had the best time and learnt so much about myself and what I want to do, yes I will be coming out with a lot of debt to do a job that doesn't need a degree, but I wouldn't change it. I wish I'd got more involved in things from the beginning and now Im heading into my third year and trying to do more but not let mu grades suffer. Im writing a guide to starting uni series on my blog at the moment, I'd love to know what you think. You can check it out here.
